Cougars fall in three sets to UCF
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Houston Volleyball team fell in three sets to UCF at The Venue on Thursday night.
Redshirt senior Barakat Rahmon led the way for Houston (8-15, 1-11 Big 12), posting six kills and four blocks. Freshman Tenesyn Frye tallied a team-leading 16 assists and seven digs along with two kills and a block while junior Halle Schroder added another six kills and senior Avery Shimaitis hit 5 for 11 without an error for a .455 hitting percentage.
Houston scored six of the first 11 points of the match, but UCF (14-9, 5-7 Big 12) answered with a 5-0 run to grab the edge. Two more 4-0 stretches later in the frame gave the Knights a 25-13 win in the opening frame.
Though the Knights took a 10-6 lead to start the second, Houston answered with a 6-1 stretch to take the lead at 12-11. UCF posted its own 6-1 run to reclaim the advantage, holding the lead to win the set, 25-18.
Neither team was able to gain a foothold in the third as the frame saw 14 ties, including as late as 20-20. A 3-0 UCF run in the final few points was enough to put the set away, 25-22.
UP NEXT
Houston returns to Fertitta Center for a four-match homestand, starting with #24 Iowa State at 7 p.m., Nov. 13.
The Cougars then meet #23 Baylor (1 p.m., Nov. 15), Kansas State (7 p.m., Nov. 19) and #8 Arizona State (7 p.m., Nov. 21).
