Klimis Notches Double-Double, Ties Career-High in Digs Against Iowa State

Cougars fall in four sets to Cyclones
HOUSTON – The Houston Volleyball team fell in four sets to #25 Iowa State at the Fertitta Center on Thursday night.
Freshman setter Olivia Klimis led the charge for the Cougars (8-16, 1-12 Big 12) as she posted her second-career double-double with 15 assists paired with a tied career-high of 13 digs. Redshirt-junior middle blocker Ella Wendel had seven of the team's 12 blocks on the night, matching her career-high while senior outside hitter Brenya Reid led the side with eight kills.
A back-and-forth battle on the serve opened an 8-8 scoreline before Iowa State (19-5, 9-4 Big 12) bounced out in front, 12-9, at the first team timeout. The Cougars roared back with a 5-0 run to tie the set at 17-17, before continuing to surge late in the frame, closing it out with an 8-1 run to earn a 25-18 first set win.
The Cougars jumped out to a 7-4 lead to open the second before a short Cyclone run leveled the score at 9-9. A challenge in favor of Iowa State shifted momentum, leading to a 19-16 advantage late in the set. Both teams traded points deep into the frame, going deep into extra points before the Cyclones leveled the match with a 32-20 second set victory.
A strong start to the third saw Houston jump out to an 11-6 lead to force an Iowa State timeout. The Cyclones responded with a sequence of runs to claw back into the set before closing it out at 25-21 for its first lead of the match.
The fourth set opened to a competitive start with neither team leading by more than a point until Iowa State took a 15-13 lead into the media timeout. A string of short runs made the difference in the latter half of the frame, as the Cyclones took the set 25-20 to close out the match.

Houston returns to Fertitta Center for the second of a four-match homestand, hosting #23 Baylor on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. at Fertitta Center.
The Cougars will follow with home meetings against Kansas State (7 p.m., Nov. 19) and #8 Arizona State (7 p.m., Nov. 21).
