Jade Jones Named Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week

Women’s basketball earns first Big 12 weekly honor since joining the league
HOUSTON – University of Houston Women's Basketball freshman forward Jade Jones was named Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week after averaging 16.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals across three games, the league office announced Monday.
This marks the first Big 12 weekly honor in program history for Houston Women's Basketball since joining the conference for the 2023-24. Jones is also the first Cougar to earn a Freshman of the Week award since the 2020-21 season, when Laila Blair was named the AAC Freshman of the Week on March 1, 2021.
The freshman forward opened the week coming off the bench at Stephen F. Austin, scoring 14 points with four steals. She tallied 10 of her 14 points in the third quarter against the Ladyjacks.
Jones made her first career start Thursday at UTRGV, leading the Cougars with a career-high 18 points and hitting the game-winner at the buzzer to give Houston its first road win since Feb. 17, 2024.
On Sunday, she remained in the starting lineup against High Point as she recorded her first career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Cougars head to Nassau, the Bahamas, to compete in the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship Goombay Division featuring Houston, Arkansas State, Kent State and Tulsa, beginning Friday. The games will be streamed on FloCollege.
Houston will play its first round game against Arkansas State at 12:30 p.m., CT, Friday, while Kent State and Tulsa will face each other at 10 a.m., CT.
The winners will play in the Championship game scheduled at 12:30 p.m., CT, Sunday, and the losing teams will play in the consolation match at 10 a.m., CT., Sunday.
