Women’s Golf in Fourth after 27 Holes on Friday

Junior Moa Svedenskiold tied for fourth to lead at Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club
GUADALAJARA, Jalisco, Mexico – University of Houston Women's Golf junior Moa Svedenskiold posted an opening-round 68 and was tied for fourth -3 at following the first 27 holes of the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club on Friday afternoon.
As a team, the 25th-ranked Cougars finished the first half of the tournament at +2 to stand in fourth. #12 Florida State held the team lead at -5 while #23 TCU and #11 Virginia were tied for second at -1.
In the morning round, Svedenskiold opened her spring season with back-to-back birdies. After two bogeys in a 3-hole stretch return her to even par, she rallied with consecutive birdies again at Nos. 9-100 and rallied from a bogey on the par-5 12th hole with four straight birdies to finish with a 68, tying her season-low round.
The Halmstad, Sweden, joined Florida State's Mirabel Ting and NC State's Lauren Olivares in a tie for fourth.
The tournament concludes with the final 27 holes Saturday.
Junior Alexa Saldana joined Svedenskiold among the Top-10 leaders and was tied for 10th at -1. After starting the tournament with a 72, the Mexico City native drained a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole in the afternoon and added another birdie on the final hole of the First Round.
Making her season debut, senior Hyeonji Kang was tied for 19th at +2 while freshman Annika Ishiyama and junior Natalie Saint Germain were tied for 29th at +4. Sophomore Maelynn Kim was tied for 43rd at +7.
Colorado (+6), Washington (+9), #45 NC State (+10), Maryland (+13), Georgia (+17) and #43 SMU (+19) rounded out the Top-10 team leaders.

The second half of the tournament begins at 8 a.m., Saturday. Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Washington and NC State.
Kim begins the day for Houston off No. 10 at 9:40 a.m., Saturday with Saint Germain (9:50 a.m.), Ishiyama (10 a.m.), Saldana (10:10 a.m.) and Svedenskiold (10:20 a.m.) following. Kang opens play off No. 10 at 11:20 a.m.
