
Leila Petewon Named Director of Sports Performance

Petewon joins Houston women’s basketball and volleyball staff
HOUSTON – The University of Houston strength & performance program announced the addition of Leila Petewon as the Director of Sports Performance for the women's basketball and volleyball teams on Wednesday.
"We are super fortunate to have Leila join our team," Women's Basketball Head Coach Ronald Hughey said. "Her ability to connect with the players and knowing what it takes to make them faster and stronger will benefit us on the court."
"We're excited to have Leila join us in Houston," Volleyball Head Coach David Rehr said. "Her expertise and experience in the weight room will complement our coaching on the court and help us continue pushing our program to new heights."

Petewon comes to Houston from New Mexico after spending a season as the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance for the women's basketball program.
Petewon joined New Mexico after spending a season at Oregon as a strength and conditioning coach intern with the men's and women's basketball programs and with the softball program. During her time with the Ducks, she assisted the head strength and conditioning coach with team lifts, individual lifts, warm-up, conditioning and post-practice tendon loading.
Before her time at Oregon, she served as a strength and conditioning coach and as a health and wellness coach for two years at Lane Community College, working with women's basketball and as an assistant girl's varsity basketball coach. In addition, she has a CSCS, USA Weightlifting Level 1 certification and NBHWC Health and Wellness Coach certifications.
Petewon received her associate of science transfer degree at Lane Community College in 2017 before obtaining a bachelor of science degree in human physiology at Oregon in 2018. In Aug. 2024, Petewon earned her master's degree in exercise science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from Concordia University- Chicago.
