Maswanganyi, Hinchliffe become first Cougars to medal in eight years
PARIS – University of Houston sprinters Shaun Maswanganyi and Louie Hinchliffe closed out the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in winning fashion as they won silver and bronze, respectively, in the men's 4x100-meter relay inside Stade de France on Friday.
Â
Under the tutelage of Head Coach Carl Lewis, Maswanganyi (South Africa – silver) and Hinchliffe (Great Britain – bronze) are the first University of Houston Olympians to medal since Tania Cagnotto's (Italy) silver in the 3-meter synchronized diving and bronze in the 3-meter diving (2016).
Â
After failing to pass the baton at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, Maswanganyi and South Africa redeemed themselves as the group set an African record time of 37.57 to win silver. Maswanganyi, who ran the second leg, posted a time of 9.06 to earn his first Olympic medal.
Â
Hinchliffe and Team Great Britain followed in third place as the relay team ran a season-best time of 37.61. Hinchliffe also ran the second leg of Team GB's relay and earned his first Olympic medal with a split time 9.03.
