Maswanganyi Advances to 200-Meter Semifinal at 2024 Paris Olympic Games

Shaun Maswanganyi earns qualification for second consecutive Olympic semifinal
PARIS – University of Houston sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi qualified for the 200-meter semifinal as he placed third in his heat in the 200-meter Round 1 at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games inside Stade de France on Monday.
Maswanganyi, competing for South Africa, earned the automatic berth to the semifinal as he crossed the finish line at 20.20 for third in his heat. The Big 12 Outdoor Performer of the Year will compete in the 200-meter semifinal at 1:02 p.m., CT Wednesday.
This marks Maswanganyi's second career appearance in the 200m Olympic semifinal. At the Tokyo Olympic Games, Maswanganyi posted a 10th-place finish, just 0.05 seconds outside of advancing to the final.
On the women's side, Cecilia Tamayo-Garza concluded action at the XXXIII Olympiad, where she finished fifth in her heat in the repechage round at 23.49. With her appearance in the 200m, Tamayo-Garza became the second Mexican woman to compete in the event after a 56-year absence at the Olympic Games by Team Mexico.
