’84 Cougars, Co-Southwest Conference Champs, Reunion Set

Houston Athletics to celebrate 40th anniversary of instrumental season on Saturday, Sept. 28
HOUSTON – The 1984 University of Houston Football team will be recognized on Saturday, Sept. 28 during the Cougars' Big 12 Conference home opener against Iowa State inside TDECU Stadium as part of 40-year anniversary and reunion festivities.
The '84 squad won a share of the Southwest Conference title highlighted by victories against #3 Texas and #6 SMU on its way to a Cotton Bowl Classic appearance. Houston finished 6-2 in league play and notched seven wins overall including defeating Miami (Ohio), Baylor, Texas A&M, #6 SMU, #3 Texas, Texas Tech and Rice.
The Cougars won four of their seven games by double digits including their 29-15 win over the Longhorns. The conference title was Houston's eighth all-time and fourth in a nine-year span since joining the Southwest Conference.
In head coach Bill Yeoman's 23rd year at the helm, two Cougars were named All-SWC with T.J. Turner and Audrey McMillan earning All-Conference honors on defense. Team captains included Audrey McMillian, Ray Rogers and Bryant Winn.
