Houston will send 48 student-athletes to compete in 20 events over the three-day Championship meet
WACO, Texas – The University of Houston Track and Field program heads north for the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium from Thursday to Saturday.

2024 OUTDOOR RECAP
In its first Big 12 outdoor regular season, Houston saw 52 first-place finishes and broke three school records in 12 meets. Houston women's track and field was also nationally ranked in the Top-25 for five consecutive weeks.

The Cougars racked up 15 Top-10 performances in school history. Houston also boasts 28 Top-10 marks in the Big 12 across men's and women's track and field.

Graduate Izac Canchola opened the outdoor season with an impressive winning performance in the javelin throw. Canchola's throw of 70.08 (229'-11) meters placed him at No. 3 in school history and No. 3 in the Big 12.

The women's 4x400-meter relay of graduate Sydni Townsend, senior Iman Babineaux, graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford and freshman Michaela Mouton broke the school record several times over the regular season with their best time set at Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. The squad's time of 3:27.32 won them the event and set them as the top time in the Big 12.

Also at Penn Relays, senior De'Vion Wilson won the 110-meter hurdles with his time of 13.38, the fifth-fastest time in the meet history and the second-fastest time in the Big 12 this season.

Senior Christyan Sampy won the pole vault at the Texas Invitational with a personal best and school record-breaking height of 5.65 (18'-6.5) meters. Sampy holds the top spot in the Big 12 with his performances in Austin, Texas.

Beckford was a part of another school record when she won the 800-meter at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., with her time of 2:00.70, the top time in the Big 12.

Mouton also made it into the Top-10 times in school history for the 200-meter with a time of 23.20 at the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational and the 400-meter with the second-fastest time in school history finish of 51.41 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. Mouton is joined by relay-mate Babineaux in the 400-meter with her finish of 52.77 in Gainesville, Fla., to earn the eighth-fastest time in school history. All three of these marks are Top-10 in the Big 12.

Senior sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi earned three first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash and the 4x200-meter relay. Maswanganyi's 100-meter finish of 10.02 at Texas Relays is the top time in the Big 12. The relay team with Maswanganyi, junior Trey East III, Davonte Burnett and freshman Cayden Broadnax still holds the top time in the world, finishing 1:21.55 at Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

Sophomore sprinter Louie Hinchliffe picked up his first victory as a Cougar when he won the 100-meter dash at Penn Relays with a time of 10.21, the sixth fastest time in the Big 12.

NEW YEAR, NEW CONFERENCE
Last year at the American Athletic Conference Championships, the men's and women's teams finished in second place.

Maswanganyi won titles in the 100-meter, 200-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay. Wilson defended his title in the 110-meter hurdles, while Sampy won the pole vault.
