Houston to compete Wednesday through Saturday in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Houston Track and Field program will have 30 student-athletes compete in 23 events, including three relays at the 2024 NCAA West Preliminary Round, Wednesday through Saturday on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Â

STARTING LINE NOTES
- The Cougars have 24 student-athletes on the men's side and six on the women's side as they compete in 23 events.
- The men will begin action on Wednesday, followed by quarterfinals on Friday.
- The women will compete on Thursday and close action on Saturday.
- Miracle Thompson (100-meter hurdles), Claire Meyer (10,000-meter), Michaela Mouton (200-meter, 400-meter), Iman Babineaux (400-meter), Sydni Townsend (400-meter hurdles) and Kelly-Ann Beckford (800-meter) will be the six representatives on the women's side at the West Preliminary Round for the Cougars.
- Mouton, Babineaux, Townsend and Beckford will also compete in the 4x400-meter relay on Saturday.
- Beckford (800-meter) and Townsend (400-meter hurdles) hold the fourth fastest time in the West.
- Townsend broke her school record in the 400-meter hurdles at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship and earned second.
- Mouton set a school record in the 400-meter at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship, where she placed second and has the eighth fastest time in the region.
- After winning the 110-meter hurdles Big 12 Conference title, senior De'Vion Wilson will compete in the 110-meter hurdles alongside freshman Jairius Burton and junior Jamar Marshall Jr. Wilson holds the fourth fastest time in the West.
- Coming off Big 12 Performer of the Year and Men's High Point Performer of the Meet at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship, senior Shaun Maswanganyi will compete in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash races in Fayetteville. Maswanganyi currently holds the fastest time in the 100-meter dash and second fastest in the 200-meter dash in the West Regional.
- Sophomore Louie Hinchliffe and freshman Cayden Broadnax will compete in the 100-meter dash. Hinchliffe placed second at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship in the event.
- Junior Adam Mason and freshman Aaron Crittenden will compete in the 800-meter run.
- Junior Trey East III will compete in two individual events (200-meter, 400-meter).
- Junior Dillon Leacock and Nakoah Witt will represent Houston in the 400-meter hurdles.
- The Cougars will see action in both relay events as Ireon Brown, Hinchliffe, Broadnax and Maswanganyi compete in the 4x100-meter relay.
- Nicholas Byrd, Joshua Sims-Waddy, East III and Leacock are set to compete in the 4x400-meter relay.
- In his fourth straight NCAA West Preliminary Round appearance, senior Christyan Sampy will compete in the pole vault, where he looks to secure his ticket to Eugene. The senior broke his school record at the Texas Invitational this season with a clearance of 5.65m and holds the top spot in the West.
- On the field, Houston will be represented in all men's throws by graduate Izac Canchola (javelin), graduate Ethan Marshall (hammer throw), senior Lusekelo Mwamukonda (discus) and freshman Cordell Nwokeji (shot put).
- Freshman Antrea Mita and junior My'Kell Beck will compete in the high jump.
- The Cougars will have three representatives in the horizontal jumps: senior David Ajama (triple jump), senior Caleb Malbrough (long jump), and junior Kevin Snyder (long jump, triple jump). Ajama currently holds the eighth furthest jump in the West at 15.90m.
- The top 12 finishers in each event qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 5-8.
