Dzemeshkevich earns award for second-straight year, Schouten selected as CSC Academic All-America finalist
HOUSTON – A pair of student-athletes from the University of Houston Tennis team earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, the organization announced this week.
Junior Maria Dzemeshkevich (computer science) earned the award for a second consecutive year, while sophomore Sophie Schouten (pre-business) made her debut on the All-District Team and was selected as a CSC Academic All-America finalist.
Dzemeshkevich captured the first singles point in Big 12 play in program history at #71 West Virginia (March 22). The junior won five doubles matches with partner Laura Slisane, including back-to-back matches against #59 TCU and #32 Baylor.
Schouten finished the year ranked #80 in the ITA doubles poll as she and partner Sonya Kovalenko led the Cougars with seven doubles matches on court one. The duo defeated four Big 12 opponents in doubles action, including #45 BYU (March 2), #32 Baylor (March 10), #55 UCF (March 30) and #18 Oklahoma (April 17).
