Maswanganyi Shines, Cougars Win Five Conference Titles at Big 12 Championship on Saturday

Senior Shaun Maswanganyi named High Point Performer of the Meet following stellar performance
WACO, Texas – Senior Shaun Maswanganyi was named the Big 12 Conference High Point Performer of the Meet and the University of Houston Track & Field program won five conference titles at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday.
Maswanganyi won his first Big 12 title of the day in the men's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 38.44 alongside senior Ireon Brown, sophomore Louie Hinchliffe and freshman Cayden Broadnax. The relay team set a facility record and won its 10th straight title, and Maswanganyi's fourth in the event.
After winning the 60-meter hurdles conference title in February, senior De'Vion Wilson completed the Big 12 season sweep with his victory in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.35 for another facility record. Wilson currently ranks fifth in the nation with this time.
Maswanganyi continued to succeed as he won his first individual Big 12 title with a time of 10.11 in the 100-meter dash. Hinchliffe secured second place with his personal best time of 10.16.
The success did not end there for Maswanganyi, as he won his fourth career 200-meter conference title and sprinted to the finish line in 20.10. This mark met the Olympic qualifying standard time for Maswanganyi.
After winning three titles, Maswanganyi was named the High Point Performer with 22.5 points scored on Saturday.
On the women's side, Houston's 4x400-meter relay team of graduate Sydni Townsend, senior Iman Babineaux, graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford and freshman Michaela Mouton continued its season success by winning the event with a time of 3:29.18
Mouton set a school record in the women's 400-meter with her second-place finish of 51.32. Townsend also lowered her 400-meter hurdles school record to 55.00 for second in the event.
Beckford added additional points to Houston's score as she placed second in the 800-meter at 2:01.33.
Houston's men's side concluded the meet in fifth with 77.5 points, while the women placed ninth with 45 points. Texas' men's and women's teams were crowned team champions.

Houston student-athletes in the top 48 of the NCAA West Qualifying list, and the top 24 relay teams will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Ark., May 22-25 at John McDonnell Field on the University of Arkansas campus.
Student-athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at the NCAA West Preliminary Round will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oreg.
