Softball Drops Weekend Finale to #7/#6 Oklahoma State

Long-ball spells the difference in the series finale against the Cowgirls
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team struggled to contain #7/#6 Oklahoma State hitters in a 10-2, six-inning loss at Cougar Softball Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Graduate Shelby Smith (10-7) took the loss in the circle for Houston (22-17, 3-12 Big 12) after allowing 10 runs, nine earned, in 5.1 innings. In her second start of the weekend, Lexi Kilfoyl (15-2) threw 4.0 innings to pick up the win, allowing one run on two hits. Oklahoma State moves to 33-6 on the season with a 12-3 mark in Big 12 play.

1st | Rollin gave the Cougars an early 1-0 edge, hitting her first home run of the game as Houston's leadoff hitter.
3rd | A pair of singles and aggressive baserunning put two Cowgirl runners in scoring position and Caroline Wang drove them both home with a two-run double, giving Oklahoma State a 2-1 lead.
5th | After Oklahoma State added another two runs on a homer in the fourth, the Cowgirls plated two runs for the third consecutive inning as Wang hit a two-run home run to right center, extending their lead to 6-1.
Rollin answered for Houston in the bottom of the inning with her second solo homer of the game, cutting the deficit to four.
6th | Oklahoma State clinched the run-rule win with four runs in the top of the sixth. With two on, Karli Godwin doubled down the left-field line to plate one, setting up a three-run home run from Wang, her second homer of the day, clinching a 10-2 victory.

Houston heads to Huntsville, Texas, for a Tuesday matchup against Sam Houston. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
