PREVIEW: Houston Splits Weekend at Penn Relays, Texas Invitational

Track and Field will travel to Philadelphia Pa., and Austin, Texas for a two-meet weekend
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. and AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Houston Track and Field program will split for a second consecutive weekend as it sends student-athletes to Penn Relays, Thursday through Saturday and to the Texas Invitational, Friday and Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
At the Mt. SAC Relays, senior hurdler Jamar Marshall Jr. finished first in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.93. This was Marshall Jr.'s first victory since competing in the 2022 Pac-12 Outdoor Championships.

Freshman thrower Cordell Nwokeji won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 18.93 (62'3.25) meters, moving him to No. 5 in school history.

Senior hurdler De'Vion Wilson finished second, but was the top collegiate finisher in the men's 110-meter hurdles elite competition with a time of 13.49. This moves Wilson to No. 15 in the nation for the event.

At the J. Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston, freshman Laney Kucera vaulted to victory in the pole vault with her height clearance of 3.56 (11'-8.25) meters on her last attempt.

In the men's long jump, freshman Christopher Johnson claimed first with his leap of 7.18 (23'-6.75) meters.

Graduate Sydni Townsend won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.17, moving her to No. 6 in the nation.

Senior sprinter Davonte Burnett won the men's 100-meter dash with his time of 10.34. This marked Burnett's first individual victory since 2022 at the USC vs. UCLA meet.

Graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford finished first in the 1,500-meter with a personal-best time of 4:26.20. Beckford entered at No. 6 in school history in her first 1,500-meter of the season.
