Beckford Sets School Record at Texas Relays

Distance runner Kelly-Ann Beckford takes down nearly 36-year-old record on Thursday
AUSTIN, Texas – Graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford put on a strong performance in the women's 800-meter as she broke Houston Track and Field's outdoor school record at Texas Relays on Thursday at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium.
Theresa Dunn-Fuqua's 800-meter school record finally fell, nearly 36 years after she set it as graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford ran nearly a full second faster than Dunn-Fuqua's 2:03.80 time from June 3, 1988. Beckford finished second overall in 2:02.88, but earned the top collegiate finish in the event and ranks third in the country now.
Graduate Sydni Townsend sealed her spot in the 400-meter hurdles finals as she won her heat and posted the top-overall time with a 57.12. Townsend will compete on Friday at 5:35 p.m.
Junior Dillon Leacock won his heat in the men's 400-meter hurdles as he crossed the finish line at 52.13 to earn the automatic qualifier. Leacock will compete in finals at 5:40 p.m., on Friday.
