Sydni Townsend places second in 400-meter hurdles, Maswanganyi and Burnett qualify for 100-meter Saturday final
AUSTIN, Texas – Sydni Townsend grabbed the second podium finish of the weekend for the University of Houston Track and Field program with her performance in the 400-meter hurdles final at Texas Relays on Friday at Mike. A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium.
Townsend finished second in the 400-meter hurdles final with a time of 56.36. Townsend now extends her season-best time and holds the second-fastest mark in the nation.
Senior sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi was one of two Cougars to advance to the men's 100-meter final as he ran the fastest time in the prelims at 10.02 (2.4 m/s).
Senior sprinter Davonte Burnett won his heat and qualified for the 100-meter final with a wind-legal time of 10.29 (1.5 m/s). Friday was Burnett's first 100-meter race since the 2022 Pac-12 outdoor track and field championships, where he finished third for USC.
