Cougars attend prestigious meet Thursday through Saturday, first outside of Houston
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Houston Track and Field program heads to the state capital to compete in the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, at the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium, Thursday through Saturday.
Houston has been named the most outstanding men's team twice in meet history, first in 1960 and later in 2018. Three Cougars have been named most outstanding performers of the meet, Leroy Burrell (1989), Elijah Hall (2018) and Amere Lattin (2019).
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend at the Victor Lopez Classic, Houston finished with 10 first places, 15 personal bests and three Top-10 marks in the nation.
Junior Trey East III won the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.23. His time puts him at No. 8 in the nation with less than a second separating the Top-10 times.
Graduate distance runner Kelly-Ann Beckford finished first in the 400-meter, as she crossed the line at 52.79. Beckford ran a personal best in her first outdoor meet of the season. This time sets her at No. 10 in the nation and seventh in school outdoor history.
Graduate Sydni Townsend ran to first in the 400-meter hurdles at 57.17. This mark is the second fastest in the nation and No. 16 in the world.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, junior Dillon Leacock won the event, crossing the line at 51.33 for a personal best.
The Cougar's 4x100-meter relay of freshmen Nicholas Byrd and King Micha Scales, senior Ireon Brown and sophomore Jaden Brown claimed first place with their time of 39.94.
Junior hurdler Miracle Thompson won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.61 in her first outdoor meet as a Cougar.
Continuing her winning ways was freshman Michaela Mouton, who won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.35. This marked her second victory in as many meets in her outdoor collegiate career.
In the men's shot put, freshman Cordell Nwokeji won with a personal best throw of 18.27 (59'-11.25) meters, earning himself the ninth-best throw in school outdoor history.
Senior Caleb Malbrough finished first the in men's long jump with his personal-best jump of 7.41 (24'-3.75) meters.
In the men's high jump, junior My'Kell Beck grabbed first place with his clearance of 2.10 (6'-10.75) meters.
