Cougars Come Up Short Against the Bearcats

Houston returns home for four-game homestand beginning Thursday
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Despite forcing set three in four of its six singles matches, the University of Houston Tennis program came up short against Cincinnati, 4-0, at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on Sunday.
DOUBLES
The Cougars (1-13, 0-8 Big 12) kept each match close as sophomore Gabriela Cortes and junior Elena Trencheva fell to Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe, 6-4.
Cincinnati (7-8, 1-6 Big 12) clinched the doubles point as Gabrielle Guenther and Rozalia Gruszczynska defeated sophomores Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten, 6-4.
SINGLES
The Bearcats added their second point of the day as Callie Flanagan took down freshman Nina Skoric, 6-4, 6-2, on court four.
The rest of the courts would go the distance as Kovalenko fell to Isabel Pacheco 2-6, 6-2, 2-6, on court six.
Cincinnati secured the match on court five as Watanabe defeated Trencheva, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
UP NEXT
Houston returns to the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to host Prairie View A&M on Thursday and #62 UCF on Saturday. Both matches are slated for a 1 p.m. start.
The Cougars then welcome #1 Oklahoma State at 1 p.m., Friday, April 5, before wrapping up the home schedule against Kansas State at 11 a.m., Sunday, April 7, for senior day.
Admission is free to all home Houston Tennis matches.
