Cougars led after seven innings, but an error allowed a four run eighth
HOUSTON – The Houston Baseball team led 5-2 after seven innings, but an error in the eighth allowed for four Kansas State runs in the Cougars' 6-5 loss on Saturday night inside Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.
Kansas State (16-6, 4-1 Big 12) took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after back-to-back hits to open the game, a double and a ground out. The Wildcats then struck for four runs in the eighth inning three of which were unearned to take the lead for good.
Houston (14-8, 4-4 Big 12) hung a four spot on the board in the fifth inning, getting to Kansas State's starter who until the fifth inning had not allowed a hit. The Cougars took advantage of a pair of lead-off walks as the Cougars loaded the bases for first baseman Justin Murray who singled up the middle to tie the game. Two batters later, second baseman Harold Coll singled up the middle to score two more runs and take a 4-2 lead.
The Cougars plated their fifth run of the game on a safety squeeze bunt by Murray for his third RBI of the game.
