Houston Drops Road Contest at #71 West Virginia

Cougars head to Cincinnati at 11 a.m. CT, Sunday
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The University of Houston Tennis program dropped its first road contest outside of Texas, 6-1 to #71 West Virginia at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts on Friday.
The Cougars (1-12, 0-7 Big 12) continue their road swing when they head to Cincinnati, Ohio, at 11 a.m. CT, Sunday, to take on the Bearcats at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center. The match can be streamed here with live stats available here.
DOUBLES
On court one, sophomores Sophie Schouten and Sonya Kovalenko fell to Michaela Kucharova and Momoko Nagato, 6-1
West Virginia (13-5, 2-4 Big 12) clinched the doubles point when Ting-Pei Chang and Tatiana Lipatova defeated junior Elena Trencheva and sophomore Gabriela Cortes, 6-1, on court three.
SINGLES
After a slight delay during the first set, the Mountaineers scored back-to-back points as Kucharova defeated Cortes, 6-0, 6-3, on court five, while freshman Nina Skoric fell to Maja Dodik, 6-3, 6-3, on court four.
Schouten took the first set on court three, 6-1, against Nagato, but dropped the next two, 6-2, 6-2.
West Virginia added another point as Chang defeated Trencheva, 7-5, 6-2, on court six.
Junior Maria Dzemeshkevich recorded the lone Houston point as she won a battle against Maya Bordereau 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
The Mountaineers claimed the sixth and final point of the day as senior Laura Slisane fell to Love-Star Alexis 6-7, 6-3, 0-1 (7-10).
