Two homers not enough to push Cougars past Jayhawks
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball program lost the series-opener, 4-3, to rv/rv Kansas at Cougar Softball Stadium on Friday evening.
Paris Lehman (5-3) took the loss for the Cougars (19-10, 2-5 Big 12), allowing four runs on five hits in 5.1 innings in the circle. Kasey Hamilton (8-5) earned the win for Kansas (20-8-1, 5-2 Big 12) after throwing a complete game for the Jayhawks.

1st | Kansas took an early lead in the game with the second batter of the game, Lyric Moore, hitting a solo home run to left field.
4th | The Jayhawks added another run in the top of the fourth with another solo homer, this time off the bat of Hailey Cripe.
The Cougars answered with their own pair of homers in the bottom of the frame. After graduate Bree Cantu reached on a walk, Coleman tied the game with a towering home run to right field. Immediately after, Smith gave Houston the lead with a solo blast to center for her second homer of the year.
6th | Kansas clinched the win in the sixth. After the second batter of the inning reached on a single, Cripe hit her second homer of the game to put the Jayhawks in front for good, earning a 4-3 win.

The Cougars continue the series at 2 p.m., Saturday, before a noon, Sunday, weekend finale. Both games will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
