
Men’s Golf Rises in Border Olympics Final Round on Tuesday

Cougars shoot low round of tournament to tie for fifth; Austyn Reily, Chi Chun Chen among Top-20 leaders
LAREDO, Texas – Behind one of the day's lowest team scores, the University of Houston Men's Golf program surged into a tie for fifth in the final team standings of the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars posted a score of 9-under 279 on the 7,375-yard, par-72 course to join Michigan and Sam Houston at 12-under 852 over 54 holes.
Fifth-year senior Austyn Reily drained a team-high eight birdies with only one bogey on the way to a 65. Starting the Final Round off No. 9, the Pottsboro, Texas, native three straight pars before making birdie on seven of the next eight holes, starting at No. 12. Only a par at No. 15 prevented a longer birdie streak.
Reily endured his lone bogey of the day at No. 5 but rallied with his final birdie of the tournament at No. 6 to join New Mexico State's Javier Delgadillo and ULM's Ylan Guerin Pozzalo in a tie for fifth at 8-under 208.
Freshman Chi Chun Chen tied for 15th at 212 while junior Wolfgang Glawe tied for 39th at 218. Freshman Grant Doggett, who made his collegiate debut in the team's starting lineup, lowered his score for the second straight round with a 70 Tuesday and tied for 44th at 220 with sophomore Ruben Lindsay tying for 77th at 227.
Playing as individuals, graduate senior Nick Sutton and sophomore Bryant Hiskey II tied for 70th at 224 while junior Jacob Borow finished 76th at 225. Making his collegiate debut, freshman Carson Cooper tied for 84th at 228.
Illinois State won the team title with a score of 832 to finish 16 shots ahead of Lipscomb, North Texas and Rice. ULM (853), Troy (853) New Mexico State (862) rounded out the Top 10.
Illinois State teammates Valentin Peugnet and Alex McCulla finished 1-2 in the individual standings at 17-under 199 and 12-under 204, respectively. Rice's Reggie Zhu finished third at 206 with Michigan's Jude Kim in fourth at 207.

Following the Border Olympics, Houston will tee off at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on March 3-5.
