PREVIEW: Women’s Golf Begins Spring Season at Nexus Collegiate

Three-day, 54-hole tournament begins Monday at Albany Golf Club in Bahamas
NASSAU, Bahamas – The University of Houston Women's Golf program opens its 2024 spring season when it tees off at the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Club.The three-day, 54-hole tournament consists of three rounds with 18 holes each day, beginning Monday with the Final Round on Wednesday on the 6,544-yard, par-72 course.
The Cougars enter the Nexus Collegiate after three Top-Four team finishes in four fall tournaments, including a sweep of team and individual titles at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas, on Sept. 11-12, 2023.

MEET the COUGARS
Under the direction of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm, the Cougars will be represented by freshman Maelynn Kim, sophomore Moa Svedenskiold, freshman Ellen Yates, sophomore Natalie Saint Germain and senior Nicole Abelar. Junior Hyeonji Kang will compete as an individual.
Svedenskiold has been a steady leader for the Cougars in 2023-24 and tops the team with a 69.25 scoring average and 11 rounds of par or better in 12 rounds total. The Halmstad, Sweden, native finished in the Top 10 in each of the first three fall tournaments with Top-20 showings in all four.
Kim stands second among the Cougars with a 69.89 average and has posted eight rounds of par or better during her first collegiate season.
Yates made program history in September, winning the Sam Golden Invitational individual title with a score of 14-under 202, thanks to three straight rounds in the 60s, including a 66 during the final 18 holes. She became the fastest Cougar in program history to earn medalist honors.
TEAM FIELD
Houston will compete in an 11-team field featuring Iowa State, UTSA, North Texas, Michigan, Mississippi State, Illinois, Kentucky, Boston College, Tulsa and host Texas Tech.
PAIRINGS
Monday's First Round begins with a 6:45 a.m. (CST) split- tee start. Abelar begins the day for the Cougars off No. 1 at 6:45 am. (CST) with Saint Germain (6:54 a.m. CST), Yates (7:03 a.m. CST), Svedenskiold (7:12 a.m. CST) and Kim (7:21 a.m. CST) following.
Kang begins the tournament off No. 1 at 7:30 a.m. (CST) Monday.

UP NEXT
Following the Nexus Collegiate, Houston returns home to play host to its own Chevron Collegiate on Feb. 26-27 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
From there, the Cougars will tee off at The Show at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas on March 4-5.
