Three Cougars among Top-20 Leaders at Nexus Collegiate

Sophomore Natalie Saint Germain tied for 10th at even-par 72 after Monday’s First Round
NASSAU, Bahamas – University of Houston sophomore Natalie Saint Germain led three Cougars among the Top-20 leaders following the First Round of the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Club on Monday afternoon.
Saint Germain finished with a 72 and was tied for 10th while senior Nicole Abelar and junior Hyeonji Kang – playing as an individual – were tied for 19th with 74s.
As a team, Houston posted a score of 298 and was tied for sixth with Mississippi State and Tulsa. Kentucky held the First-Round lead at 285 while Texas Tech (290), North Texas (291), Iowa State (292) and Illinois (293) completed the Top Five.
Starting off No. 1 on the 6,544-yard, par-72 course, Saint Germain overcame a bogey at No. 4 with three straight birdies on Nos. 5-7 The Prague native added three more birdies on her back nine to finish with a 72 and tie for 10th with Ellie Roth (North Texas), Pimkwan Chookaew (Iowa State), Shreya Pal (North Texas) and Jensen Castle (Kentucky).
Freshman Ellen Yates was tied for 27th at 75 while freshman Maelynn Kim was tied for 40th at 77. Sophomore Moa Svedenskiold was tied for 50th at 79.
Kentucky's Laney Frey held the first-day lead with a 68 while Texas Tech's Lauren Zaretsky stood in second at 69. Illinois teammates Isabel Syi and Yurang Li were tied for third at 70.
The tournament continues with the Second Round on Tuesday morning and wraps up with the Final Round on Wednesday.
