LUBBOCK, Texas – University of Houston Women's Basketball opens Big 12 Conference action on the road against Texas Tech inside United Supermarkets Arena at 2 p.m., Sunday.

THE GAME
- Houston opens 2024-25 Big 12 Conference action against Texas Tech and faces the Lady Raiders for the 57th all-time meeting on Sunday.
- Last season, Houston and Texas Tech crossed paths three times with the Lady Raiders winning all three meetings.
- Head Coach Ronald Hughey is 5-5 in conference openers.
- The Cougars open conference play on the road for the first time since the 2021-22 season where it won, 66-61 against Wichita State (Jan. 5, 2022).
- Houston closed out non-conference action with a dominant 98-40 win over Mississippi Valley State inside Fertitta Center on Tuesday afternoon.
- All seven available players scored, including five in double-figures. Kierra Merchant had a career afternoon with 30 points, including six 3-pointers.
- After missing the previous two games, Gigi Cooke returned to the court, posting 18 points, and Ashley Chevalier matched her career high with 12 points.
- Two Cougars posted double-doubles, marking the third-straight game with at least one player accomplishing the feat. Eylia Love posted 14 points and a career-high 17 rebounds and tied her career best with five steals. Leilani Augmon tallied 10 points and grabbed 10 boards for her second consecutive game with a double-double.
- The Cougars return six players from the 2023-24 roster: Kierra Merchant, Gigi Cooke, Avalon Miller, Maliyah Johnson, Peyton McFarland and All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention, Laila Blair.
- Blair (210) has her eyes set on the Houston all-time 3-pointers made record of 226 and is 17 away from breaking the school record.
- On Dec. 4, 2024, Blair moved up to fourth on Houston's all-time scoring list with 18 points against UT Arlington. She is 40 points away from taking sole possession of third place.
- Houston welcomes five transfers this season including Leilani Augmon (Troy), Summer Bostock (Maryland), Ashley Chevalier (Texas Tech), Eylia Love (Louisville) and Kateri Poole (LSU).
- Avalon Miller (Achilles), Maliyah Johnson (ACL) and Kateri Poole (ACL) will miss the season after suffering season-ending injuries leaving Houston with nine players.
