Cougars, Mean Green meet at 2 p.m. for first time in 10 years
HOUSTON – The University of Houston women's basketball program closes out its homestand when it hosts North Texas at 2 p.m., Sunday inside Fertitta Center for its Pediatric Cancer Awareness game.
Fans 12 and under can enjoy a postgame meet and greet with select players on the court.

Following Sunday's game, Houston heads to New Orleans for the Big Easy Classic - Bayou Tournament, where they will face Minnesota at 1:15 p.m., Friday and Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3:30 p.m., inside the Alario Center.

THE GAME
- Houston and North Texas meet for the 21st time in series history and for the first time in 10 years.
- The Cougars lead the all-time series, 14-6, including a six game winning streak.
- Head Coach Ronald Hughey earned his first win as the head coach of Houston Women's Basketball with a 46-42 victory over North Texas in Denton (Nov. 14, 2014).
- Head Coaches Jason Burton and Hughey meet for the second time in their careers.
- The Cougars faced Burton during his time at East Texas A&M (formerly Texas A&M- Commerce) with a 71-55 victory over the Lions (Nov. 15, 2022).
- Behind graduate guard Eylia Love's double-double, the University of Houston Women's Basketball team dominated Alcorn State, 73-48, on Thursday night.
- Houston had six players score in double figures and was led by sophomore guard Kierra Merchant's 13 points and career-high seven steals. Love recorded her third career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Sophomore guard Summer Bostock scored a career-high 11 points and fifth-year forward Peyton McFarland also posted 11 points against the Lady Braves. Redshirt sophomore guard Gigi Cooke and graduate guard Laila Blair each scored 10 points of their own.
- After missing the previous two games with an ankle sprain, graduate guard Ashley Chevalier returned to the court, scoring a season-high eight points, including two 3-pointers and five assists.
- Houston returns All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention selection Laila Blair for the 2024-25 season.
- The Cougars return five players from the 2023-24 roster: Kierra Merchant, Gigi Cooke, Laila Blair, Avalon Miller and Peyton McFarland.
- Houston welcomes transfers Leilani Augmon (Troy), Summer Bostock (Maryland), Ashley Chevalier (Texas Tech) and Eylia Love (Louisville) to the squad this season.
- Redshirt senior forward Avalon Miller (Achilles) and senior guards Maliyah Johnson (ACL) and Kateri Poole (ACL) will miss the season after suffering season-ending injuries.
- Assistant Coach Chynna Grimes will miss the first two months of the season after the arrival of her daughter, Capri, on Nov. 4.
