Cougars begin three-game homestand with 2 p.m. tipoff against Huskies
HOUSTON – After being on the road for two games, the University of Houston women's basketball program returns to Fertitta Center as it hosts Houston Christian at 2 p.m., Sunday, for its Hoops for Troops Game.
Service members will receive free admission against the Huskies while fans 12 and under can enjoy a postgame meet and greet on the court with select Houston women's basketball student-athletes.

Following Sunday's game, Houston remains home as it hosts Alcorn State at 7 p.m., Thursday for its Mental Health Awareness Night.
The Cougars will close the homestand against North Texas on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m., for its Pediatric Cancer Awareness game.

THE GAME
- Houston returns to Fertitta Center for the start of its three-game homestand.
- Houston and Houston Christian meet on Sunday for the first time since the 2019-20 season and the fourth time in program history.
- The Cougars lead the all-time series, 3-0.
- Head Coaches Ronald Hughey and Donna Finnie meet for the second time in their careers.
- Hughey has faced Houston Christian once in his career taking an 82-60 victory inside Fertitta Center (Nov. 17, 2019).
- Houston Christian is one of three Southland Conference opponents the Cougars will face this season (UTRGV, Southeastern Louisiana).
- Despite redshirt sophomore guard Gigi Cooke's career high 21 points, the University of Houston Women's Basketball team fell to Rice, 60-48, on Thursday evening inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
- For a second time this season, Houston (0-3) was led in scoring by Cooke with 21 points. Rice (3-1) had three in double figures, including Dominique Ennis, who scored 14 points in the game.
- Graduate guard Laila Blair came off the bench for the Cougars after missing the first two games of the season.
- Houston returns All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention selection Laila Blair for the 2024-25 season.
- The Cougars return five players from the 2023-24 roster: Kierra Merchant, Gigi Cooke, Laila Blair, Avalon Miller and Peyton McFarland.
- Houston welcomes transfers Leilani Augmon (Troy), Summer Bostock (Maryland), Ashley Chevalier (Texas Tech) and Eylia Love (Louisville) to the squad this season.
- Redshirt senior forward Avalon Miller suffered a season-ending injury (left Achilles) in Houston's season opener vs. UTRGV (Nov. 5).
- Senior guards Maliyah Johnson and Kateri Poole will also miss the season after suffering knee injuries in October.
- Assistant Coach Chynna Grimes will miss the first two months of the season after the arrival of her daughter, Capri, on Nov. 4.
