Nation’s top high school point guard will compete as freshman in 2025-26
HOUSTON – William J. Brennan High School star point guard Kingston Flemings will compete for the University of Houston Men's Basketball program after signing a financial aid agreement on Friday, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced.Flemings made his decision during a live show on the 247Sports Channel on Thursday afternoon. He chose Houston over Alabama, Baylor, LSU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
Measuring 6-foot-3 and weighing 170 pounds, Flemings is a 4-star recruit by 247Sports, on3 and ESPN. He will compete as a freshman beginning during the 2025-26 season and have four years of eligibility.
"Kingston understands the game at a high level. He has athleticism, quickness, competitive spirit and runs the game. He is everything you want in a point guard," Sampson said. "Kingston has a chance to be special. He is a tough, smart kid. This is an unbelievable opportunity. He wanted to go somewhere that wins at a high level and where he can get better. He made a great decision, and he and our program both will benefit."
"Beyond the physical tools of being a great athlete and a great passer with speed and vision, Kingston brings a high character. He has an every-day worker's mentality, which is what Houston is built on," Brennan High School Coach Koty Cowgill said. "He is committed to winning and has done that at every level. Kingston is very engaging, and people love to be around him."
Flemings was a Top-25 overall student-athlete nationally by all recruiting organizations and was designated the country's top point guard by on3.
In the summer, he was a member of the Gold Medal-winning Team USA at the FIBA Under-17 3x3 World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary and competed at USA Basketball Under-17 National Team training camps and the NBPA Top 100 Camp.
As a junior during the 2023-24 season, Flemings was named the San Antonio Express-News Player of the Year for the second straight season after leading Brennan High School to a 31-5 overall record, the UIL Regional Semifinals and a 16-0 mark in district play.
He averaged 17.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game and led the Bears in scoring in three of four postseason games, including an 18-point effort in the Semifinals against Stony Point High School.
In February, Flemings finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in a win over Jay High School on the way to being named San Antonio Express-News Player of the Week (Feb. 19, 2024).
He was first named San Antonio Express-News Player of the Year following his sophomore season in 2022-23 and set the Brennan HS single-season record for assists as a freshman in 2021-22.
Flemings is the third member of the Cougars' 2025 signing class. Shadow Creek High School star guard Bryce Jackson signed a financial aid agreement on Wednesday while Wasatch Academy guard Isiah Harwell joined the program on Thursday.
