Soccer Claims Conference Win Against Arizona

Senior midfielder Alexis Fowlkes responsible for lone goal
HOUSTON – In a defensive battle, the University of Houston Soccer team held off Arizona, 1-0 for its first Big 12 Conference win of the season on Sunday afternoon at Carl Lewis International Complex.
The victory marked the first for Houston (4-9-1, 1-7 Big 12) over Arizona (9-4-2, 4-3-1 Big 12) to tie the series at one.
The Cougars scored the lone goal of the match in the 53rd minute, as senior midfielder Alexis Fowlkes found the back of the net from just outside the box for her first goal of the season.
Arizona's best chance came with a penalty kick in the 36th minute, but was denied by freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manning.
Manning held it down in goal all match long as she claimed her first career win, clean sheet and tallied a career-high nine saves on the day.

Houston hits the road for a pair of contests in Utah when it faces the Utes and BYU. The Cougars take on the Utes at 8 p.m. CT, Thursday at Ute Field in Salt Lake City, before heading to Provo to battle BYU at 8 p.m. CT, Monday, Oct. 21, at South Field.
