De La Fuente Among Top-Five Leaders at Southwestern Invitational

Senior All-American fires third straight round in 60s at North Ranch Country Club
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – University of Houston senior Santiago De La Fuente fired his third straight round in the 60s and finished fifth at 9-under 204 to lead the Cougars in the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club on Wednesday afternoon.After opening the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 67-68, De La Fuente posted a 69 on the 6,800-yard, par-71 layout.
As a team, Houston recorded a team score of 292 in the Final Round and finished in a tie with USC for 12th at 868.
Starting off No. 10, De La Fuente overcame a challenging first nine, which included three bogeys. However, the Guadalajara, Mexico native started his second nine with birdies on two of his first four holes and then drained back-to-back birdies on Nos. 6-7.
Super senior Austyn Reily tied for 32nd at 216 while sophomore Ruben Lindsay tied for 53rd at 221. Junior Wolfgang Glawe tied for 67th at 227, and freshman Chi Chun Chen tied for 72nd at 230. Playing as an individual, sophomore Bryant Hiskey II finished 75th at 234.
Ohio State captured the team championship with a score of 839. UNLV finished second at 840 while UCLA and San Diego State tied for third at 843. Washington (844), Texas Tech (845), Colorado (845), Wake Forest (849), California (852) and San Jose State (861) rounded out the Top 10.
Ohio State's Neal Shipley earned medalist honors after posting a 61 in the Final Round and finishing 12-under 201. Washington's Taehoon Song finished second at 202 while Tyran Sanders (Texas Tech) and UNLV's Caden Fioroni tied for third at 203.

Following the Southwestern Invitational, the Cougars return to the Lone Star State to play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas on Feb. 19-20.
From there, Houston will tee off at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on March 3-5 before returning home to play host to the All-American Intercollegiate on March 18-19 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
