
De La Fuente Leads Men’s Golf at Southwestern Invitational

Senior tied for third entering Wednesday’s Final Round at North Ranch Country Club
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – University of Houston senior Santiago De La Fuente fired his second straight sub-par round to lead the Cougars during the Second Round of the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
A day after opening the spring season with a 67, De La Fuente posted a 3-under 68 on the 6,800-yard, par-71 course. The Guadalajara, Mexico, native stood in a tie with UNLV's Caden Fioroni for third at 7-under 135.
Starting off No. 1, De La Fuente enjoyed another fast start with two birdies in. his first four holes. Following a pair at No. 5, he sank birdies on two of his next three holes.
After opening his back nine with a bogey and par, De La Fuente birdied four of his next five holes on the way to his seventh sub-par round of the season.
As a team, Houston stood in 13th with a score of 576.
Super senior Austyn Reily posted a 71 Wednesday and moved into a tie for 38th at 144. Sophomore Ruben Lindsay also shot an even-par 71 and was tied for 51st at 147. Junior Wolfgang Glawe was tied for 64th at 150 while freshman Chi Chun Chen was tied for 71st at 153. Playing as an individual, sophomore Bryant Hiskey II stood in 75th at 158.
Ohio State held the Second-Round lead in the team standings at 10-under 588 to finish two strokes ahead of Texas Tech, UNLV and Colorado. UCLA (561), San Diego State (562), California (566), Washington (566), Wake Forest (567) and San Jose State (570) completed the Top 10.
Colorado's Tucker Clark held the Second-Round individual lead at 10-under 132 after shooting 63 Tuesday. Texas Tech's Tyran Sanders stood in second at 134 while Tyler Kowack (San Diego State), Luke Powell (UCLA) and Neal Shipley (Ohio State) were tied for fifth at 136.
The tournament continues with the Final Round beginning with a 10 a.m. (CST) split-tee start Wednesday.

Following the Southwestern Invitational, the Cougars return to the Lone Star State to play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas on Feb. 19-20.
From there, Houston will tee off at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on March 3-5 before returning home to play host to the All-American Intercollegiate on March 18-19 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
