Houston opens league play at Cincinnati, hosts Iowa State to kick off league slate
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football will open Big 12 Conference play at Cincinnati on Saturday, Sept. 21, and host Iowa State one week later, on Saturday, Sept. 28, inside TDECU Stadium as part of the program's Big 12 Conference slate, the league office announced Tuesday.
As previously unveiled, the Cougars will play four league home games and five conference road matchups in addition to home non-conference tilts against UNLV (Saturday, Aug. 31 – TDECU Stadium), Oklahoma (Saturday, Sept. 7 – Norman, Okla.) and Rice (Saturday, Sept. 14 – TDECU Stadium).
Houston plays two of its three Big 12 games on the road during October, beginning the month with an October 4 or 5 (Friday or Saturday) matchup at TCU. Following the off week, the Cougars visit Kansas for the first time as league foes on Saturday, Oct. 19, before welcoming Utah to TDECU Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 26 in the first matchup between the programs since 1978.
The Cougars will play four consecutive games, and five total, against opponents featured among ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25. Following its Kansas (#23) and Utah (#13) matchups, Houston faces #21 Kansas State on Saturday, Nov. 2 inside TDECU Stadium. After its second off week, the Cougars visit #9 Arizona in a matchup set for either Thursday, Friday or Saturday, Nov. 14, 15 or 16.
Houston rounds out home play on Saturday, Nov. 23 against in-state rival Baylor and caps the regular season with a Saturday, Nov. 30 visit to BYU – the Cougars' fifth and final out-of-state trip compared to two a season ago. Meanwhile, the 30th all-time meeting between Houston and Baylor will be first between the two teams on the campus of the University of Houston.
The 2024 season marks the first time the league will compete as 16 members with Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah joining in July. As part of the schedule matrix, which was released last November for the 2024-27 seasons, the Conference looked to maintain its 5/4, 4/5 home/away rotation for all 16 members to minimize non-conference scheduling disruptions.
Fans can get in on the excitement of Year 1 of the Willie Fritz era by purchasing season tickets for as low as $99 ($16.50 per game). Don't miss your chance to be part of all the action at TDECU Stadium as the Cougars host five opponents who were either ranked or received votes in the AP Top 25 a season ago. Renewal information for current season ticket holders will be available in the coming weeks.
