Track and Field Rounds Out Robert Platt Invitational in Winning Fashion

Levesque, six top finishes highlight two-day meet
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track and Field program finished the Robert Platt Invitational winning seven events, finishing Top Three in another seven and setting 40 personal bests inside Yeoman Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Senior multi-athlete Grant Levesque's magical meet came to fruition when he won the heptathlon with 5,853 points. Levesque's point total was enough to rank No. 1 in school history, No. 1 in the nation and No. 2 in the world. To reach this historic mark, Levesque set a personal best and No. 10 time in school history in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.88, a personal best in the 60-meters at 6.77 and a personal best in the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:51.52.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, junior hurdler Miracle Thompson finished second with a time of 8.20, setting a personal best. Her time was the 17th fastest in the nation in the event this season.
Two Cougars finished on the podium for the women's 800-meter. Graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford placed first with a time of 2:04.59, setting a Robert Platt Invitational record, a Yeoman Fieldhouse record and the ninth-fastest time in the nation.
Graduate sprinter Sydni Townsend ran to a second-place finish in the 800-meter with her time of 2:05.77, a personal best. Townsend also made her way up to No. 2 in Houston's indoor top performances, only behind Beckford's time of 2:02.59.
All-American senior hurdler De'Vion Wilson came out on top in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.71. He matched his top mark of the season for sixth in the country.
In the men's 200-meter final, junior sprinter Trey East III won first with a time of 21.28 seconds, setting a personal best.
Freshman thrower Cordell Nwokeji set a personal best and claimed first in the shot put with his throw of 17.60 meters (57-9)
Graduate thrower Ethan Marshall moved up a place in the school indoor top performances and finished third with an 18.98 meters (62-3.25) throw.
Freshman jumper Genesis Griffin outperformed her last top mark and finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.94 meters (19-5.5).

The Cougars will head to College Station, Texas, as Texas A&M hosts the Charlie Thomas Invitational at the R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track on Feb. 2-3.
