PREVIEW: Houston Travels to College Station for First Road Meet on Saturday

The star-studded Ted Nelson Invitational begins at 10 a.m.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston Track and Field program heads on the road for the first time this season to compete at the Ted Nelson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday at the R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track. The meet begins with field events at 10 a.m., followed by running events at 2:10 p.m.
Houston is set to compete against the country's top track and field programs on Saturday. On the men's side, all six teams, including Houston, scored at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships. Four teams on the women's side, Tennessee, USC, Texas A&M and Clemson, scored at the Championships.
LAST TIME OUT
Houston opened its season hosting the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational with four Cougars placing first and 14 recording personal bests.
For the men, graduate Christyan Sampy cleared 5.53 meters to grab first in the pole vault to rank No. 2 in the nation. Junior Trey East III earned first place, along with the third fastest time in the country in the 200-meter race (21.29).
On the women's side, graduate Sydni Townsend took the top spot in the 800-meter (2:07.40) and junior Miracle Thompson placed first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.38) in her Cougar debut.

- Olympic finalist and NCAA All-American senior Shaun Maswanganyi returns for the Cougars for his senior season.
- Maswanganyi was named to the 2024 Men's Preseason Watch List for The Bowerman, the USTFCCCA announced Wednesday.
- The 10-time NCAA All-American is making his career Watch List debut and is the fourth Houston man to make the Watch List, joining Cameron Burrell (2017, 2018), Elijah Hall (2018) and Kahmari Montgomery (2019).
- In 2023, Maswanganyi earned All-America First-Team honors in the 60-meter dash, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. The senior set the school record in the 100-meter dash at the 2023 NCAA Championships with a time of 9.91.
- At Houston's final American Athletic Conference Championships, Maswanganyi won the Most Valuable Performance award, claiming titles in the 200-meter and 60-meter dash.
- At the Outdoor Conference Championships, Maswanganyi earned first place in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and ran the anchor leg of Houston's ninth-consecutive 400-meter relay title.
