Four Top Finishes Highlight Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational

Cougars post four first-place finishes, 14 personal bests on Friday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track and Field program opened the 2024 indoor season with four first-place finishes and recorded 14 personal bests at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational inside Yeoman Fieldhouse on Friday.
Houston's Sydni Townsend started her season with a strong performance to take the top spot in the 800-meter. The Philadelphia, Pa., native posted a personal best time of 2:07.40 and now ranks third in the nation.
Junior Miracle Thompson made her Houston debut with a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in a time of 8.38 for the 22nd spot in the nation.
Sprinter Trey East III shined as he posted a first-place finish in the men's 200-meter with a time of 21.29. His time lands him in the third spot in the nation.
Senior hurdler De'Vion Wilson posted an impressive second-place performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.71 to place the All-American at the No. 2 spot in the national rankings.
The Bowerman Preseason Watch List honoree, Shaun Maswanganyi, posted a 6.68 in the men's 60-meter prelims for the 14th spot in the national rankings.
Graduate MiKenna Robinson made her Houston indoor debut as she collected a second-place finish in the 600-yard at 1:22.98.
Graduate pole vaulter Christyan Sampy recorded a first-place finish in the men's pole vault. He cleared a 5.53 height to rank No. 2 in the nation. On the women's side, freshman Laney Kucera made her collegiate debut with a second-place finish after clearing a 3.75.
Junior Kevin Snyder leaped to third place in the men's long jump at 7.33m to rank No. 20 in the nation.

The Cougars are set to compete at the Ted Nelson Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20, in College Station, Texas.
Houston returns to Yeoman Fieldhouse for the two-day Robert Platt Invitational running Friday, Jan. 26 through Saturday, Jan. 27.
