Tennis Completes Day Two of Houston Invite

Cougars compile five singles and three doubles victories on day two
HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Houston tennis team completed day two of the Houston Invite, earning three doubles and five singles victories on Saturday at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Houston commenced the day with doubles action, winning three of its four matches. Maria Dzemeshkevich and Laura Slisane earned the win over Rice's Divna Ratkovic and Chie Kezuka, 6-3.
Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten cruised to a 6-2 victory against the Owls' Saara Orav and Anushka Ashar. Gabriela Cortes and Elena Trencheva teamed up to defeat Air Force's Alexis Odom and Andrea Le, 6-4.
Houston continued to show dominance in singles play, picking up five wins. Kovalenko earned the win in three sets against UT Arlington's Sarina Reinertsen, 6-1, 2-6, 10-8. Schouten defeated Francisca Veraga of UT Arlington, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. Cortes beat Air Force's Joselyn Limbago 6-0, 6-2
Nina Skoric earned her second career singles victory of the weekend by taking down Air Force's Le, 7-6(5), 6-2. Blanca Cortijo Parreno closed out the day with a win against Air Force's Carissa Holguin 6-4, 6-1.
The Houston Invite resumes on Sunday with first serve beginning at 9 a.m., at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. Fans can attend free of charge and no student ticket claim will be necessary.
