Cougars continue Big 12 action on Sunday against Oklahoma
HOUSTON– The University of Houston Soccer program dropped its Big 12 home opener match against rv UCF, 1-0, on Thursday evening at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Houston (6-3-1, 0-2 Big 12) tallied 12 shots on the evening, with six coming from sophomore forward Cameryn Maddox. UCF (6-2, 2-0 Big 12) also posted 12 shots, with seven being on frame.
Maddox found the first chance of the match for the Cougars in the eighth minute after the forward attempted a chip outside the 18-yard box to force a save from goalkeeper Caroline DeLisle.
As both teams continued to exchange shots in the first half, UCF opened the score as Katie Bradley scored the lone goal of the match off a corner kick in the 41st minute of action.
Although the Cougars outshot the Knights 5-4 in the second half, it was not enough as the late first half goal sealed the win for UCF.
Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich made her eighth start of the season, posting six saves against the Knights. This marks Dietrich's third match with five or more saves.
