Houston returns to action Sunday against Southeastern Louisiana
SEATTLE – The University of Houston Soccer program opened its 2023 season as a member of the Big 12 Conference with a scoreless draw Thursday night against Washington at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Â
Houston (0-0-1) posted six shots in the match, while Washington (0-0-1) posted nine.
Â
Olivia Dietrich, Alexis Fowlkes, Kyrsten Kizer, Cameryn Maddox, Sofia Weber, Allie Byrd, Jada Gibson, Juliet Moore and Jaden Masters each made their Houston debut, with Byrd and Maddox leading the way in shots with two apiece.
Â
Perhaps the best chance for the Cougars came in the 40th minute as Maddox sent the ball toward the bottom right side of the net but was ultimately saved by Washington's goalkeeper Olivia Juarez.
Â
This draw marks Houston's fourth under the helm of Head Coach Jaime Frias and the first 0-0 result since the 2020 season against UTSA (Feb. 24, 2021).
Â
In net, Dietrich made her presence known against the Huskies with four saves, earning her first career collegiate shutout.
Midfielder Cordelia Cross picked up a yellow card in the 84th minute after a foul on Washington's Radisson Banks.
