Guard returns to City of Houston for fifth year
HOUSTON – Head Coach Ronald Hughey has added the fourth Power Five transfer to his program with the signing of 6-1 guard Shalexxus Aaron from Oregon State on Thursday.
Aaron, who started her career in 2017-18 at USC, has played 88 games at the Division I level, averaging 7.0 points a game in her four-year playing career.
The 6-1 guard from Apple Valley, Calif., spent the 2022-23 season at Oregon State where she was the team's most efficient three-point shooter in the starting lineup, hitting 32.9 percent of her three-point attempts while scoring from the field at a 40.1 percent clip.
In her 31 games in 2022-23, Aaron started 25 for the Beavers and shot 86.2 percent from the free throw line, pulling down 2.2 rebounds per game while dishing out 1.1 assists a game.
Aaron returns to Third Ward after she spent the 2021-22 season at Texas Southern in Houston's Third Ward District. The guard averaged 12.0 points a game, 4.3 rebounds a game and over 2.0 assists a game for the Tigers.
The senior spent her first four years at USC, sitting out the 2019-20 season due to injury, but scored at a 42.2 percent clip and averaged 6.6 points per game in her two seasons of play for the Trojans.
The daughter of Carl and Madinah Aaron, Shalexxus has two brothers, Shaddean and Shaqquan, all are basketball players. Her mother played at Cal State San Bernardino and her father played professionally in Australia. Her brother Shaddean played at Mercer College and Shaqquan also played at USC.
Aaron is Hughey's sixth collegiate transfer this offseason, fourth Power Five transfer and second signee this year from the Pac-12 Conference. The guard joins N'Yah Boyd (UTEP), Gia Cooke (Maryland), Djessira Diawara (Clarendon College), Maliyah Johnson (Pitt) and Peyton McFarland (Utah).
