Dzemeshkevich Earns Tennis Academic All-District Honors

Moscow native recognized for performance on and off the court
HOUSTON – University of Houston sophomore Maria Dzemeshkevich has been recognized for her work on the court and in the classroom as she was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday. Dzemeshkevich (pronounced Dee-zeh-mesh-kev-itch), a sophomore in pre-psychology, spent the 2023 season playing in the one and two singles position for the Cougars.
On the court, Dzemeshkevich earned eight singles victories, along with six doubles wins on the year.
The Moscow native picked up the third singles point for the Cougars in the first round of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship against East Carolina (April 19).
At the start of her career in 2022, Dzemeshkevich led the team with 13 singles victories and was named the American Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, in addition to being named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
