Gabriela Cortes, Sophie Schouten pick up singles points against Roadrunners
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis program dropped its final road match of the season against UTSA, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Courts.

Houston (11-8) picked up two singles points, while UTSA (13-9) claimed the doubles point along with four singles points.

In doubles, Houston picked up the win on court two after Elena Trencheva and Gabriela Cortes defeated UTSA's Alexandra Weir/Fatima Gutierrez, 6-3.
UTSA evened things up after Aleksandra Zlatarova and Magda Tuells followed with a 6-4 victory over Sophie Schouten and Laura Slisane. The Roadrunners clinched the doubles point after Stanislava Bobrovnikova and Adeliya Mukhutdinova came out on top with the 6-3 victory against Sonya Kovalenko and Azul Pedemonti.

In singles play, Schouten quickly evened the score by earning Houston's first point of the afternoon on court five after defeating Adeliya Mukhutdinova, 6-2, 6-3. This marks Schouten's ninth singles win of the season.

The Cougars' comeback bid fell short as the Roadrunners sealed the victory with wins on courts two, three, one and six.

Houston and UTSA continued to play for the final point of the afternoon as Cortes found herself in a battle on court four against Tuells. After taking set one, Cortes put up a tough fight in the second set, with Tuells taking the win to force a third set. Cortes clinched her ninth victory of the season coming on top in the final set (6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-8).

The Cougars will return to the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to host North Texas at 11 a.m., Friday, and will close out the regular season against #44 Rice at 1 p.m., Saturday for Senior Day.

Houston will honor its three seniors, Sofia Chang, Azul Pedemonti and Manasi Reddy at the conclusion of the match against Rice.
