Due to expected inclement weather, Thursday’s game time has been changed
HOUSTON – The University of Houston softball team's Thursday game against East Carolina has been moved up to 1 p.m. due to expected inclement weather. The Cougars look to remain undefeated in conference play as the series kicks off this weekend and maintain sole possession of the top spot in The American.

The weekend's other games remain unchanged. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. with a series finale at 1 p.m. on Saturday. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â

The series welcomes back Houston's softball alumni. Softball alumni who RSVP to jqreid@uh.edu can receive tickets for themselves and three guests for the weekend series.Â

ALL-TIME SERIES
- Houston is 45-20 all-time against East Carolina. Under Vesely, the Cougars are 15-3 against the Pirates.Â
- Houston swept last year's series, including a run-rule win in the last matchup. Houston outscored East Carolina 19-3 in the series.
- The Cougars are on a four-game win streak against the Pirates and have won eight of the last 10 by a score of 51-28. Â
- At home, Houston boasts a 24-8 record against ECU and are 16-6 against the Pirates in conference play.

- Turiya Coleman enters the weekend with multiple stats ranked among the best in the NCAA. Nationally, she ranks 27th in hits (45), 35th in batting average (.429), 44th in total bases (75). Kenna Wilkey also ranks near the top at 47th in strikeouts (103), which also leads the conference, and 43rd in victories (11). Â
- LA Matthews is on a 10-game hitting streak, tied with Coleman for the longest streak on the team this season.
- Houston sits at #101 in RPI entering the weekend matchup. RPI is released by the NCAA every weekday morning. The Cougars rank fourth in The American in RPI, behind Wichita State, UCF and South Florida, all three being 2021 NCAA tournament teams.Â
- In the latest update, Coleman was ranked at 5th in D1Softball's third base power rankings.
- Houston leads The American after two weeks of conference play as the only undefeated team remaining. Every team plays the other six conference opponents with one bye weekend. Houston has played Memphis (March 25-26) and had its bye weekend so far.
- Among active players, Wilkey has the 20th most appearances (131), the 29th most innings pitched (561), 29th most wins (53) and the 33rd most strikeouts (489).
- The Cougars boast one of the tougher nonconference schedules in the conference. Houston's nonconference slate was ranked as the 32nd toughest, only behind UCF in the conference.Â
- Houston played 16 home games and no away games in the month of February, followed by 16 neutral site/away games and no home games in March. Houston is the only known school to have played its opening month at its home stadium, followed by an entire month away from it.
- The Cougars are playing their last season in The American prior to joining the Big 12 Conference next season.
- Wilkey picked up a pair of preseason honors, being named the preseason American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year by both D1Softball and Extra Innings Softball.
