Cougars Fall in Weekend Opener

Saturday’s game now scheduled for an 11 a.m. CT first pitch
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Houston softball team came up short in the first game of the series against UCF, 7-0, on Saturday at UCF Softball Complex.
Sarah Willis (13-3) tossed the third perfect game in UCF (31-19, 10-3) history and the team's first since 2003 in the win. Senior Kenna Wilkey (14-12) picked up the decision for Houston (19-25, 6-7), tossing five innings and allowing four runs.
Game Highlights:
· Senior Kati Ray Brown caught her third baserunner of the season stealing in the third inning.
· Houston turned its 16th double play of the season in the sixth inning.
Key Innings
1st | UCF took the lead early, using a sacrifice fly to plate a run and put the Knights up, 1-0.
6th | After extending its lead to 4-0 in the fifth, UCF rallied again in the sixth. With the bases loaded, Houston turned a double play to put runners on second and third with two outs, but the Knights used a fielder's choice and a single to score a trio of runs, cementing a 7-0 win.
Willis went out in the seventh and retired the side in order to clinch the victory for the Knights.
UP NEXT
Houston continues the series against UCF at 11 a.m. (CDT), Saturday. Fans should note that Saturday's starting time was moved up from originally published schedules due to expected inclement weather moving through the Orlando area.
Sunday's game remains scheduled for 11 a.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
