Softball Stumbles on Saturday Against UCF

Cougars look to rebound in series finale on Sunday
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Houston softball team came up short in an 8-2 loss against UCF on Saturday at UCF Softball Complex.
Grace Jewell (10-6) tossed a complete game for UCF (32-19, 11-3) to earn the series victory, while Taylor Edwards (3-6) took the loss in the circle for Houston (19-26, 6-8).
Game Highlights:
· Senior Bree Cantu tallied her eighth double of the season in the leadoff spot of the first inning. The mark is second on the team, behind sophomore Turiya Coleman's 10.
· Lorenzo's pair of doubles marks the third time this season a Houston hitter has posted a pair in a game.
· Cantu tallied her 15th multi-hit game of the season, while Lorenzo posted her eighth.

· Brooke Lorenzo: 2-3, 2 2B, RBI
· Paige Hulsey: 1-3, R
Key Innings
1st | The Cougars struck first with Cantu leading off the game with a double to left-center and advanced to third on a groundout from Coleman. Senior Britaney Shaw drove her home with her 22nd RBI of the season, which sits at third on the team.
UCF answered in the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded, Chloe Evans laced a bases-clearing double to right field to give the Knights a 3-1 lead.
5th | After UCF extended its lead with a run in the second and third, Houston answered in the fifth. Senior Paige Hulsey singled to lead off the inning and later scored on Lorenzo's second double of the day. Although Cantu singled to put runners on the corners, one run was all Houston could get in the frame.
UCF tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, capitalizing on a pair of Houston errors to re-extend its lead to 7-2.
6th | After adding an insurance run in the sixth, UCF shut down the Houston offense in the top of the seventh to seal a 8-2 win.
