Houston splits squad for busy weekend in two different time zones
HOUSTON – The Houston track and field team returns to the Penn Relays and Texas Invitational this week as 26 track student-athletes will compete at the 127th Penn Relays Thursday-Saturday and 40 student-athletes will represent Houston at the Texas Invitational Friday-Saturday.

STARTING LINE NOTES
- The Cougars will take 26 student-athletes to the Penn Relays, all track athletes, while 40 student-athletes will head to the Texas Invitational.
- Houston's men's 400-meter relay has won the previous three titles at the Penn Relays.
- The Cougars' men's 400 relay has won five total "Championship of America" titles, fourth-most in Penn Relays history.
- Houston is entered in five men's relays at the Penn Relays: 400-meter, 800-meter, 1,600-meter, 3,200-meter and the sprint medley relay.
- The Cougars posted a top five all-time program time in the sprint medley relay at the Texas Relays, running 3:18.61.
- Houston is entered in three women's relays at the Penn Relays: 400, 800 and 1,600 relays. Relay lengths are listed in total length of the race, not by leg-length.
- Cincinnati, South Florida and Temple will also be in attendance at the Penn Relays.
- The Cougars own 10 conference-leading marks.
- Lloyd Frilot and Sydni Townsend ran top three all-time program marks at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet on Saturday.
- Frilot ran the fastest 800-meter run time in the conference at the Duckett Twilight meet.
- Priscilla Adejokun tied her personal best with a 65.20-meter throw in the hammer throw at the Duckett Twilight meet. Adejokun ranks second in the conference and tied the second-best program mark all-time.
- 17 Cougars, and all four relays, sit in the top 48 of the NCAA West Region rankings. Sprinters Shaun Maswanganyi and Cecilia Tamayo-Garza, along with hurdlers De'Vion Wilson and DJ Akindele are all currently in the top 48 in two different events.
- Maswanganyi (100-meter dash), Wilson (110-meter hurdles), Christyan Sampy (pole vault) and the men's 400-meter relay rank in the top 10 nationally.
- Houston returns to the Texas Invitational after most recently competing in the meet in 2021. Houston had not competed in the Texas Invitational since it was the Longhorn Invitational in 2017.
