Meyer, Townsend set personal bests on first day at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA – Houston track and field seniors Claire Meyer and Sydni Townsend ran personal records in their respective events on Day One of the Penn Relays on Thursday.
Townsend has now posted back-to-back personal records in the 400 hurdles and back-to-back top three marks in school history after running the second-fastest time in school history at the Penn Relays. The senior finished fourth overall in 57.35 seconds which is tied for second all-time.
In the 5,000 meters, Meyer improved upon her third-fastest time in program history by running 16:36.08 to finish fourth in her heat.
Junior De'Vion Wilson bested teammate DJ Akindele's previous conference-leading mark by 0.01 seconds in the 400 hurdles as the junior out-leaned his lane neighbor from Virginia by one hundredth of a second as well. The Austin, Texas native ranks 20th in the West Region.
UP NEXT
Houston will be in competition in two different time zones on Friday as a group will start competition at 11 a.m. CT at the Texas Invitational before the Penn Relays action gets started just after 1 p.m. ET.
