SERIES HISTORY. This will be the 60th meeting between the two teams and the first time the Cougars will face the Tigers new head coach Kerrick Jackson. Last season, the Cougars won the series 2-1 and then beat Memphis in the Conference tournament on a walk-off RBI-single to advance to the second round of the tournament.
LAST TIME OUT. The Cougars recorded a 13-7 win over Houston Christian. Brandon Uhse highlighted the game with a third inning grand slam while Houston's defense turned four double plays.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK. Zach Arnold earned his first Conference Player of the Week and second of his career. The junior hit .667 (10-15) during the week with eight runs scored and eight RBI. He recorded a hit in every game this week and extended his streak of reaching base to 32 games. The junior third baseman went 4-for-4 in the second game of the series with the Bulls with four runs scored and two doubles.
10+ DAYS. In 19 games this season, the Cougars have tallied 10+ hits including six out of the last eight games. As well, Houston has scored 10+ runs in 10 games this season.
SERIES WINS. Houston is looking for its fourth-straight conference series win this time against Memphis. The Cougars have won the series against ECU, Wichita State and USF. Outside of the conference matchups, Houston's series wins dates back to the Minnesota contest when the Cougars swept the series from March 17-19.
DOUBLE PLAY. The Cougars are currently ranked fourth in the country in double plays turned at 38 and No. 6 per game. Houston has turned 3+ double plays in three games this season including against HCU where they turned four.
REACHING SAFELY. Zach Arnold and Justin Murray have reached-base in 33 straight games. Arnold has reached base in every single game he has played in while Murray has found his way on base in every game since his second Cougar appearance.
15 STRAIGHT. Justin Murray is currently on a 15 game hit streak dating back to the game against Southern on March 22.
400 WINS. With the 14-3 win against Sam Houston State, head coach Todd Whitting secured his 400th career win.
