Â
Game Highlights:
- The Cougars turned four double plays in the game to tie the single-game school record. It has been achieved nine other times and last against Baylor in 2017. The Cougars have turned multiple double plays in 12 games this season as well as turning 3+ in back-to-back games.
- Zach Arnold and Justin Murray extended their reached-base streaks to 33 straight games. Arnold has reached base in every single game he has played in while Murray has found his way on base in every game since his second Cougar appearance.
- With a single in the seventh inning, Justin Murray extended his hit streak to 15 games. His 15-game streak is the longest hit streak this season.
- With 13 runs, the Cougars recorded their 18th game this season with 10+ runs and fifth within six games.
- Brandon Uhse hit Houston's first grand slam of the season in the third inning.
Key Innings:
1st | Houston Christian wasted no time getting on the board plating three runs to open the inning. However, Houston quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the half-inning. Sophomore outfielder Malachi Lott drew a walk to start off the inning before stealing second to get into scoring position. A Zach Arnold single brought Lott home before junior catcher Anthony Tulimero doubled deep into left field to score Arnold for a 3-2 score.
Â
2nd | Senior shortstop Ian McMillan took the first pitch he saw and rocketed the ball over the fence to tie the game at 3-3.
Â
3rd | The Huskies answered back with a home run of their own to again take the lead at 4-3. Â But, it was no match for the Cougars' offense in the bottom of the frame. A bases-loaded hit by pitch drove in a run to even the game at 4-4. On a 2-2 count, senior outfielder Brandon Uhse blasted a grand slam to increase the Cougars' score to 8-4.
Â
5th | Graduate transfer Drew Bianco hit the Cougars' second lead-off first-pitch home run of the game sending the ball 416 feet out of the park to increase Houston's lead to 9-4. With a runner on second and third, a passed ball from HCU's pitcher gave Arnold enough time to cross the plate to make the score 10-4.
Â
8th | In the eighth inning with the score at 12-6, the Huskies threatened and scored two more runs to make the score 12-8 but Houston tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the frame and ultimately secured a 13-7 win.
