Meyer, Townsend posts top 10 all-time Houston mark in 5,000 meters, 400-meter hurdles
WALNUT, Calif. – Seniors Claire Meyer and Sydni Townsend ran their way into the Houston track and field record books on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays as Meyer ran the third-fastest 5,000 meters time and Townsend ran the seventh fastest 400-meter hurdles time in program history.
Meyer, who set an outdoor personal record by over minute, ran 16:36.81 in the 5,000, finishing 15th overall. Meyer moves up to fourth in the American Athletic Conference rankings.
Townsend finished second overall in a field of 39 competitors in the 400 hurdles, running 58.43 seconds for a season-best time. Townsend still holds the second-fastest time in the American with her time 58.43 time.
Senior Brandon Seagreaves won the men's 5,000 in a 54-second personal record 14:19.64 time. Seagreaves ranks second in the conference.
Junior Lloyd Frilot posted the conferences' leading 800-meter run time with a personal record 1:50.23 over the half-mile. Frilot's time is nearly three full seconds of improvement from his previous personal-best outdoor 800 time set at New Mexico Junior College.
In the long jump, senior Jayla Fields posted a personal-record 6.05-meter jump on her first jump of finals. Fields jumped six meters for the first time in her career, improving her lifetime best by six centimeters.
