Houston represented in every event type, most Cougars qualified since 2019
HOUSTON – The University of Houston track and field team will have five student-athletes representing the Cougars at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 10-11 in Albuquerque, N.M.

STARTING LINE NOTES
- Five Cougars have marks in the top 16 nationally, with Kelly-Ann Beckford (800-meter run), Shaun Maswanganyi (60-meter dash), Christyan Sampy (pole vault), Nu'uausala Tuilefano (shot put) and De'Vion Wilson (60-meter hurdles).
- Houston has the most representation from the American Athletic Conference at the NCAA Indoor Championships with five qualifiers.
- The five Cougars attending the championships is the most representation Houston has had at the indoor championships since 2019.
- Only 16 competitors qualify for each event, making the NCAA Indoor Championships the most difficult meet to qualify for in the country.
- Houston has a competitor in every event type – sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, throws.
- Senior Kelly-Ann Beckford has broken the school record three times this season, broke the meet record at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday and won her first conference title in the process.
- The Trelawny, Jamaica native holds the 10th fastest time in the country, 2:02.59, from her school record time at the Arkansas Qualifier.
- Junior Shaun Maswanganyi has the 13th fastest 60-meter dash time entering the indoor championships after he tied his personal best time of 6.58 seconds at the American Indoor Championships during the preliminary round of the meet.
- Maswanganyi's 60 time ranks fourth all-time in Houston history.
- Senior Christyan Sampy broke the school record in the pole vault with a title winning jump of 5.54 meters at the conference championships on Friday.
- The pole vaulter has posted the ninth-highest jump in the country this season. Sampy also holds the outdoor school record in the pole vault with Antonio Ruiz.
- Graduate Nu'uausala Tuilefano competed in three meets this season and made the most of it as she shattered the school and meet record at the American Indoor Championships in the shot put with a 17.46-meter throw on her third throw of the competition.
- Tuilefano ranks 14th nationally after she beat the meet record by 0.90 meters.
- Junior De'Vion Wilson ran the school record in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 7.69 seconds after running a previous school record of 7.70 in prelims of the Houston Invitational. Wilson ranks 12th nationally.
